Football postgame: No. 23 Jordan 52, Cinco Ranch 12
State-ranked Warriors go to 6-0 as defense overwhelms in a rout of the Cougars
District 19-6A’s best defense, by the numbers, endured its first true test of the season Friday night.
Jordan aced it.
The No. 23 state-ranked Warriors dominated Cinco Ranch, 52-12, at Legacy Stadium to stay undefeated at 6-0 and improve to 4-0 in 19-6A. It’s the best start in the program’s brief three-year varsity history.
Cinco Ranch fell to 2-4 overall, 2-2 in district play.
Jordan is 2-1 all-time versus Cinco Ranch.
The Warriors’ defense thrived against a dynamic Cougars offense that entered averaging 29.2 points on 375.2 yards per game. Jordan held Cinco Ranch to 171 total yards, 3.2 yards per play. That included 52 total yards in a scoreless first half for the Cougars.
Cinco Ranch had no success no matter how it tried to manufacture yards. The Cougars averaged 4.1 yards per pass attempt and 2.2 yards per rush against a Warriors defense oozing with talent on all three levels.
Jordan entered allowing 11 points on 166.8 yards per game, both numbers 19-6A-bests. But the Warriors had not been legitimately threatened, at least on paper, until this week.
Cinco Ranch presented a dominant passing attack led by senior quarterback Charlie Adamoli and a pair of gifted pass-catchers in senior Scott Eckel and junior Drew Tureau.
But the Warriors offered Adamoli no time in the pocket and dominated the line of scrimmage. Jordan registered eight tackles for loss, including four sacks.
The defensive front, anchored by junior lineman Jimmy Phrisco Alo-Suliafu, senior lineman Jason Lee, and senior linebackers Brayden Coffie and Mason Baird, persistently trespassed into the Cougars’ offensive backfield whenever they desired.
The ball-hawking secondary led by juniors Zachary Taylor, Jeremy Alo-Perry and Austin Baird, and seniors Avery Milligan and Rocky Alo-Perry, took advantage. Because of Jordan’s prowess up front, the Warriors employed press coverage all game, winning almost every one-on-battle with ease.
Jordan limited Cinco Ranch to 10-for-27 passing for 112 yards. Adamoli, 19-6A’s top passer statistically, threw for a pair of touchdowns to Eckel, but those did not come until late in the second half after Jordan had built a 35-0 lead.
Offensively, Jordan gashed Cinco Ranch on the ground, rushing for 245 yards and five touchdowns on 36 carries. Senior Zion Jones had 117 yards and three touchdowns. Junior Tanner West had 63 yards and two touchdowns.
Junior quarterback Beau Bryant, making his second straight start of the season after winning the QB1 job early last week, completed 13 of 19 passes for 222 yards and a touchdown with two interceptions.
Junior receiver Landon Williams had 73 yards and a touchdown on three catches. Senior receiver and Michigan commit Andrew Marsh had 70 yards on five catches.
Senior running back and Florida commit Chad Gasper did not dress out. Gasper has not played this season due to injury.
Taylor and Coffie spoke about the win, defensive effort and more after the game.
